In August 2015 Managing Director David Field announced that Drone Tech Aerospace had received its first permissions from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to operate as a commercial drone operator, becoming one of the earliest companies in the country to hold them.

David Field said the permissions would let DTA "put these to use for customers in the UK wanting to apply cutting edge innovation to their operations using drones," with the company focused on applying drones and robotics to complex tasks across engineering, construction and media, spanning civil engineering, construction, engineering inspections, facilities management, land surveying, oil & gas, quarrying and mining, solar farms, and utilities including electricity, gas and water.

DTA continues to hold CAA operational authorisation for commercial drone operations today, more than a decade on from that first approval.
